Unusual Applications:

Engine Dynamometer:

We have customers that have made an engine testing frame and mounted a rear-end in the frame  so they can use the Dynapack as their load device.  This way they have a chassis dyno and an engine dyno.  With a small investment in materials, they get two dynos in one.  There is a small power loss in the rear-end, so the numbers aren't absolute crank numbers, but this set-up is consistent and repeatable, and will show the effects of small changes with surprising resolution, which is the most important factor anyway.

Trackside tuning:

Since the Dynapack is portable, racing teams can take it to the track with them.  Now they can confidently compensate for weather conditions, make sure a freshly installed engine is performing as it is supposed to (under load), and much more.  They can do these load tests without wasting valuable track time.  Knowing how inventive racers can be, we're sure they are going to find applications that we haven't even thought of yet!

NVH (Noise, Vibration, & Harshness) testing:

Because the Dynapack is so quiet (inaudible when the car is running) NVH engineers are finding that they can perform tests in their lab that they used to have to do on the road or on a test track.  The measurements can typically be taken much more quickly and with a much higher degree of repeatability than they can get on a road.  Because they can take measurements outside the vehicle while it is under load, they are hearing things they have never heard before.  They are also able to safely test indoors when road conditions are hazardous.  Some engineers have commented that the reduction in liability alone (by eliminating hazardous testing and reducing the amount of time their employees are on the road) justified the purchase of the Dynapack.  It is also an excellent tool for tuning exhaust systems, while at the same time making accurate sound level and tone measurements while the vehicle is running under load.
